Artist/painter and social activist Rama Nanda Joshi (1938-1988 A. D.) is best remembered as one of the pioneers who laid the foundations in Nepali modern art. He was a pivotal figure in essentially awakening the modernism in Nepali painting. He is equally remembered for the valiant and selfless struggle in the preservation of art, culture and heritage sites of the Kathmandu valley. He founded Park Gallery in 1970which was an institution in itself, that began the concept of modern art schooling in Nepal. Today, the gallery is progressing into the future by staging various art activities in its vibrant creative space. All this effort is an attempt to enrich the local visual art-sphere through exhibition, education and historical preservations.
